22 Future Research Stars Receive Support from the Foundation of Stars

The Foundation of Stars, an essential partner in fulfilling the mission of the CHU Sainte-Justine Research Center.

On February 22, the Sainte-Justine Research Center proceeded with allocating its 4th official Foundation of Stars studentship awards to Master’s, doctoral and postdoctoral students. Through its long-time investment in the potential of promising young students, the Foundation of Stars has been instrumental in developing the skills of Sainte-Justine’s next generation of scientists.

These studentships will enable 22 young students to expand the boundaries of knowledge in fields such as congenital heart defects, bone marrow transplants, scoliosis, osteoarthrosis, epilepsy and the use of medications during pregnancy.

The recipients of these studentships were evaluated by a committee composed of 28 researchers using strict criteria including the quality of the students’ academic records, the awards and scholarships they had obtained and a description of their research projects.

During the ceremony, Dr. Fabrice Brunet, the Executive Director of the CHU Sainte-Justine, highlighted the Foundation of Stars’ outstanding contribution to the vitality of academic life at the CHU Sainte-Justine Research Center. “Once more they have provided our young researchers with exceptional support, aid that will accelerate the development of knowledge in the field of mother-child health. Combined with that offered by the Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation, this support leverages the investments made in research that allow senior investigators to be recruited and private sector partnerships established.”

For Anièle Lecoq, President and Executive Director of the Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation, “the Foundation of Stars is an unfailing partner, not only for the development of our know-how, but also the creation of conditions conducive to excellence. We appreciate the vigor and enthusiasm that the Foundation of Stars infuses into our research work and the encouragement that it shows in always striving to reach a little further and a little higher.”

The CHU Sainte-Justine Research Center has more than 200 researchers, all of whom are dedicated to improving mother-child health. All of the research work is conducted within six research axes: Viral and Immune Disorders and Cancers, Health Outcomes, Brain Diseases, Fetomaternal and Neonatal Pathologies, Musculoskeletal Diseases and Movement Sciences as well as Metabolic Health.

“For almost 35 years, the Foundation of Stars has been investing in the potential of Sainte-Justine’s most promising students. This represents a secure investment for us in order to improve the health of sick kids across Quebec,” stated Michel Lanteigne, Chairman of the Board of the Foundation of Stars.
